Yayyy first blog post!! And the first swatches go to none other than the famous Revlon Whimsical! As many of you know by now, this is one of Revlon's newer shades and was first released as a limited edition polish, but is now a staple in their collection. It is an almost perfect dupe of Deborah Lippman's Glitter in the Air but at less than half the price! I picked mine up 25% off for around $3 :)
The polish itself is a super pretty milky blue-ish tinted jelly, with large hexagonal blue and pink glitter chunks, a smaller pink hexagonal glitter and a blue iridescent shimmer suspended within it. Alone, it is veryyyy sheer and would probably require AT LEAST 4 coats to reach the opacity in the bottle. But that's what layering is for!
Here is a macro shot of the bottle, as you can see, the formula is just milky enough to add a tad bit of color but still show off those gorgeous glitters peeking through. Reminds me of cotton candy!
For my nails, I decided to layer two coats of Whimsical over two coats of Light Blue by Love & Beauty, a nice baby blue creme polish with just an itty bit of shimmer that's sold at Forever 21. The application of Whimsical is like any other polish of it's sort. Because the glitter pieces are sort of sparse, you have to kind of glop nail polish on your nail and then move the glitter pieces around to where you want them..it's really not that bad! It just helps ensure an equal(ish) distribution of glitter on each nail. Then for fun I added Matte About You, a matte topcoat from Essie and I am in love with the look!! So fun and creamy! I love mattifying nail polishes, it makes them look so smooth!
Here you can see that there is a slight color difference between the two nail polishes, but because of Whimsical's sheerness, it can be layered over any nail polish without altering the base color too much.
I can't wait to try Whimsical over other colors! Like maybe a nice pink to show off more of the blue glitters or a really dark color, to show off both glitter colors! What do you guys think? Do you like Whimsical matte? What colors do you think it would look good on?
PS. Sorry about my cuticles, this was def PREcleanup :)
